Revenge – Season 3 Premiere RECAP

The new season of Revenge starts with some surprises and for me disappointments. In the first 60 seconds Emily is shown in a wedding dress drinking a glass of wine. She apologizes to someone and then she’s shot three times. Into the water she falls and floats for a second before the show rewinds two months earlier. Okay, so I already expected this to happen because of course they can’t get rid of Emily in the first episode right? So Daniel and Emily are preparing for a wedding that Emily keeps trying to put off until the end of the episode, when she chooses August 8th for the date.

Before that, Emily gets Nolan out of jail and buys him a house down the shore from her, which Nolan is grateful for but by no means will he hack another computer system again after going to jail for it. Emily understands and Nolan finds another way to help his girl out which he does with a show stopping performance. Emily is hosting Conrad’s congratulations ceremony for becoming governor. In the mist of it Nolan drops in literally, with a parachute strapped to his back, he bust out of his flying gear only to stand in an all white tuxedo. Smoothly he hands Emily a toxin in which she pours into Conrad’s drink and as a result he passes out during his speech.

The doctor (hired by Emily) tells the family Conrad has Huntington’s disease and he is dying quickly. He tells the family Conrad should take it easy and by his new job as governor causing so much stress he should step down. But we all know Conrad’s arrogance will last until he takes his last breath. Victoria is her same deceitful self and so is Ashley who has the audacity to try and black mail Emily. (Insert laugh here) I am shaking my head at Ashley because she is black mailing the wrong one. Does she know who she’s dealing with? Obviously not, but she is soon reminded that this game is not hers. While Emily put her pawns into place to get ready to knock the king and queen off their throne, someone is putting their own pawns in place.

Jack surprises us, well me anyway. Just when I thought him and Emily would have a secret love affair, he pumps her breaks and tells her he never wants to see her again. Emily is crushed and so am I. Ouch! That hurt big time, I was in love with them after that passionate kiss they shared but the blow off was harsh. Wow Jack I didn’t know you had it in you. I have no idea what Victoria’s son Patrick has cooking up his sleeve but I’ve got my eye on him. Charlotte is all grown up and has a attitude like her mom. She’ll make a good Grayson after all.

What I didn’t like about this episode is, the only mention of the baby Charlotte was carrying was when Victoria said she lost the baby. I was thinking REALLY? That’s it? Booooooo! Then they didn’t even give Deckland a funeral, I mean it was so over looked to me. Double boooooo! Come on ABC you could’ve came better than that. I feel it would’ve been heartfelt, and would’ve struck a nerve in Jack and Charlotte. I wanted to see her lose it when she found out Deckland didn’t make it. But we got none of that. Instead the show went on starting months later like all of that was irrelevant.

The premiere did end with a bang. We all want to know the big question, who shoots Emily? There are many possible answers to this question. My sister and I were debating this topic and we were left stumped. We figured it could be Jack, he has a reason to be mad at her. It could be Charlotte when she finds out Emily is really her half sister and has been lying all this time just to destroy her family. It could be Daniel, maybe Emily and Jack fall in love, get married, and Daniel is pissed and wants revenge. It could very well be Aiden! He shows up on Victoria Grayson’s balcony and when she questions why he’s there he says he wants to destroy her next door neighbor (meaning Emily) like she does. At this point I almost drop my laptop. What in the universe is he doing! He just as well could be jealous and brokenhearted to the core and that would definitely give him a reason to shoot Emily. So with all these possible scenarios who do you think shot Emily?

Thank you for joining us today Tiffany, I love romance novels and you’ve got some juicy ones! Now that we know a little bit about you, we have some questions to ask so let’s get to it.

1.   What is your favorite thing about the writing experience and why?

To be a good writer is like being a professional baseball player. You have to love the game, otherwise why would you play? Like spectators, readers can “see” your heart. I definitely have the heart and I am very passionate about writing, it just has to be something I strongly believe in or enjoy writing about. I write about interesting stories that readers would appreciate. It’s just a long road it takes time and practice to get there but I’m working very hard at it.

2.   Where is your favorite place to write?

In my bed at 3 a.m., in the library, on long road trips.

3.   What is your favorite author and why?

I fell in love when I read Lookin’ for Luv by Carl Weber, I just love his writing style, I will always be a fan of his.

4.   What words of advice would you give to aspiring authors?

I suggest you simply write from your heart. Don’t try to copy something that is popular today. Write whatever your inner-voice tells you to write.

5.   What projects do you have planned for the future?

I have several book in the works, In Love With A Hustler, which will be available in November or December  2013 and I also have five more titles that I plan to publish next year

Spotlight on Author Dominque Wilkins

Dominique Wilkins is a licensed cosmetologist and married mother of five children who writes short stories to which everyone can relate. In a time where crime is high, morale is low, and drama is everywhere, Dominique writes to encourage her readers and provide them with resources to keep them going and do better. Read real stories about bad parents; jealous neighbors; backstabbing friends; cheating; love; pain; and the ability to inspire change or provide a life lesson. Transferring a decade of emotional support and encouragement from the beauty shop to the pages, these stories are written with biblical messages intermingled for the reader to refer back to or research for more healing on their particular need directly from The Bible.

Dominique believes that we often cannot solve our own problems, but maybe, when they’re put into a story in someone else’s shoes, they can then be seen and solved more easily. She’s written over 15 short stories for you to enjoy. She has received great 5 star reviews for many of her titles, such as Theresa in Wonderland, 7:10, The Bad Parent and Forgiven. Not Forgotten.

I am pleased to present you with various books, in the Contemporary Christian and Inspirational fiction genre. These books are all written in and around everyday life events. There are sometimes brief sex, violence, or profanity included, but please do not be offended, as they are written with taste. You or someone that you know may identify with these characters or stories. They are all written for you to not only enjoy as you revisit these familiar scenes and activities, but to receive its message. Everyone will not like the story’s message or contents, but please keep in mind, that though you may not like it and it may seem extreme or unreal, please understand that these stories are all inspired by real life events and news reports. So, the book that you have may not be your story, but don’t let that stop you from finding your story. I’ve got plenty of other titles to choose from! The majority of the books are short, so that the message will not be lost while your entertainment need is being met without taking a large portion out of your time. You may question, who authorized me to deliver messages to anyone? The answer is simple. I have no authority by the city, state or government to pass judgement or advice. I am simply a Chicagoan, who has often shared your stories or even lived these lifestyles as well. As an adult, with a past, I’ve been blessed to be able to tap into my inner worth and see the error of these ways and now, I am simply doing what someone did for me: paying it forward. With stories, that I write for you to love! So, enjoy and please leave your review where you got your copy. If you have family or a friend who has not read one of my titles, feel free to suggest one that is possibly geared to the message that THEY need to receive. Remember, you can also pass the message, simply by sharing the book! “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” (James 2:24)

Thank you Dominque Wilkins better known as Dee Double U for hanging out today. I’m glad you’re here, we need more stories like yours everywhere! Now that we know a little bit about you, we’d like to ask some questions so let’s get right to it!

1.   What made you choose to write in the Genre that you write in?

My stories are all real life situations that everyone has experienced in their life at one time or another. I’ve had my storms and in the mist of them, someone encouraged me to get me through. This is what I hope to achieve in my books. To give someone else, what was given to me.

2.   What is your favorite thing about the writing experience and why?

I absolutely love when someone reads my story and “gets” me! It is the best thing in the world. It is like a teacher listening to a child read after a lesson.

3.   What was the first moment you knew you wanted to write?

I knew that I should write books, because I had always been good at entertaining people with my playful stories, so when I began to hurt and found my heart going out to so many wronged people, I decided to use books to reach them.

4.   How do you handle bad reviews?

Initially it stings, but I do take everything into consideration because I strive to be better at all times. I never respond to a reviewer as a reply to their words, instead I simply try to incorporate that info and take it with me into my next title, if I can.

5.   What book do you recommend everyone should read and why?

That is a difficult question, but the answer is going to be simple. IF having to choose which one of my babies to read, I will suggest 13 Heroes-Your Favorite Bible Stories Today. I believe that this title is very necessary and even people who are not in touch with their faith can enjoy and take something from these stories.

6   Where is your favorite place to write?

I love to write in the park in the summer sun!

7.   When you write, do you write for a long period of time or do you write in short burst?

I write when I can and when I feel it, so that when I am done, I feel comfortable that it is good and the story is sealed with passion.

8.   What words of advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Do not write what everyone else is writing about, write about whatever story that you feel the most passionate about. This will keep you excited and the readers too.

9.   If your book was turned into a movie who would you want to direct it?

Tyler Perry or Oprah

10.   What is your favorite time of year?

Christmas!!!

11.   Where is your favorite place to read?

I would love to read on a hammock under a shady tree.

12.   What is the worse book you have ever read?

This I may have already blocked out! lol

13.   What is your favorite song?

As of today, A Little More Jesus by Erica Campbell.

14.   What is your favorite musical artist?

Shirley Caesar!

15.   What projects do you have planned for the future?

I am the CEO of a business called Authors Promoting Success, that will be launching this month, where we will be offering author mentor-ship to help others build their brand and boost their business in similar genres. They can go to WeAreAps.com when it is officially up and running for info and pricing.

16.   What is your favorite movie?

Fireproof #LOVE IT

17.   What do you hope to say to people with your writing?

Be encouraged. You are not alone. Seek God and talk to Him…thy rod and thy staff will comfort you, when you do!

18.   What do you dislike the most about the publishing world?

Some people make it look so easy and because they do, it invites an influx of people who make it look so bad.

19.   Where do you see yourself in five years?

I pray to have reached a lot of people through my books in some way and prayerfully been able to stabilize my personal life, where I can be active as a mentor to others who need a hug, a smile and an uplifting message.

Introduction

After bearing a child out of wedlock, I had totally lost all perspective for my purpose and God’s will for my life. Long after God had forgiven me and long after friends and family embraced me with words of encouragement and hope for the future, I still hadn’t found a way to forgive myself. A close uncle, who is also a minister, suggested that I take a sabbatical for a year to regain perspective of my relationship with God. He also instructed me to take time to build a solid foundation with my daughter.

A sabbatical is in a sense a form of fasting but in essence it’s time alone with God, critically reading scripture and being available for God to use you. During this time my heart and my mind were open to receive a profound message from God. I became fascinated with the Book of Esther and why she and several other women had to encounter 12 months of purification—a requirement of King Ahasuerus who was in search of a new queen. I thought that it was very fascinating that I was going through a 12-month process similar to that of Esther. I set out to discover exactly what Esther and the other women had to endure for an entire year and why. I also began to compare these biblical discoveries with modern day beauty treatments and the use of cosmetics.

I saw the need to bring the Book of Esther to life and to show women the purpose of God-Inspired Beauty Secrets. I also wanted to share with women what I discovered about God and myself during my yearlong sabbatical and how setting aside some time to be alone with God whether it is for one month, three months or 12 months can be a very invigorating experience. The purpose of my book is to encourage women to allow God to give them the ultimate makeover. The result is similar to those before and after pictures that are seen in magazines and on television; women will be amazed at the difference.

Revenge – Season 3 Premiere

revenge

Are you ready for Season 3 of Revenge on ABC? I am! Last seasons finale ended with a double bang. Bombs exploding, lies, deceit, revenge, love and murder wrapped up in a two part episode. Being on the edge of my seat doesn’t begin to describe the emotions I felt watching it. Jacks brother Declan dies from a heart rupture an Jack goes to the Grayson manor, retrieves the gun and heads to kill Conrad. Poor Jack, he has no idea how big this revenge plot is but somehow he’s managed to get all tangled up in it. With his wife “Amanda” being killed on previous episodes, there is no telling what he will spring on us in season 3.

Sources say he’s out for blood, and can you really blame him. Just when we thought this revenge was all about the real Amanda Clark and her father David Clark it could just as well be about Jack and his revenge. We shall soon see.

Among other things, Nolan is setup and gets thrown in jail for executing willful acts of terror against the United States of America. Aiden manages to get out of jail and him and Daniel have a mocho man showdown at Emily’s apartment. The show leaves us in suspense as to what happened to Aiden seeing as, Daniel’s eyes were on a gun and he is seen later in the episode with blood on his shirt. Did he kill Aiden or what?

I’m telling you season 3 can not get here fast enough! What will happen when Charlotte finds out about Declan, will she leave the Grayson’s manor for good? What about after Jack found out Emily is the real Amanda Clark? And let’s not forget  Governor Conrad,  has joined the initiative what will be his leading role? Also, the devious vixen we knew as Ashley Davenport, Conrad’s assistant will not be returning to season 3. Womp Womp.

If you missed the season 2 finale, you can find it on abc.com or hulu.com. Season 3 premieres September 29th on ABC. The promo is below it’s about a juicy thirty seconds and if you keep your eyes on the screen without blinking you will see Jack kissing Emily! Woot Woot!

What are your thoughts on last seasons finale and who do you think is shooting Emily, in the season 3 premiere?

Spotlight on Author Charmaine Galloway

charmaine

Charmaine was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. Writing has been her passion and a positive emotional outlet since middle school. As a teen, writing in her journal allowed her to escape the negativity of her world. Around that time she also began writing her first fiction novel. She finds joy in creating unique and awe inspiring story-lines for the characters in her stories. Ingenuity and imagination is a mainstay and compass in her work.

Charmaine has a Bachelor of Arts in Family Life Education and an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. She is currently working on her Masters Degree. Becoming a fierce advocate and supporter of troubled young women has been a goal of hers since overcoming struggles of her own as a young woman. “I believe turning a blind eye or deaf ear to our struggling youth only promotes destruction and demise. They are human. They have a voice. You’ll be surprised by what you learn from them if you just listen.”

Charmaine, being the wearer of many proverbial ‘hats’, is an independent self-publisher and the founder of Charming Gal Publications. She is the CEO and jewelry designer for Forever Divas Fashionable Jewelry, her online jewelry boutique and a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher. However, the most important ‘hat’ she wears is that of Mom to her two children. Following her dreams as a writer and authoress will leave a beautiful legacy for them and encourage them to work hard to achieve their dreams because their Mom didn’t quit reaching for hers.

Her debut poetry book is called My World, Through My Eyes: Poetic Reflections of Life, Self-Love, and Relationships, and her debut Urban Christian Fiction Novel called Girlfriends Secrets are both in stores now.

“As a new author I think it is very important that my readers get to know me. I’m a writer with Christian values and I hope to inspire people with the stories that I pen. My characters are everyday people going through struggles and obstacles because life is not perfect.

With every story I create there is a testimony that my characters will share about life and how they were transformed to become better people. Every story does not have a “happily ever after” ending and neither does real life.”

Thank you Charmaine Galloway for hanging out today. I’ve had the pleasure to network with you on social media outlets and I’m excited about your visit. Now that we know a little bit about you, we’d like to ask some questions so let’s get right to it!

  1. What made you choose to write in the Genre that you write in?

I write Christian Fiction and AA Fiction because I want to encourage others to live their lives to the fullest. In the stories I write my characters may hold secrets from others and they may be trying to get over their dark past. I write because I want whoever that reads my books to be inspired if they had a dark past they can still have a bright future. I write reality based stories adapt to Christian fiction, life is not perfect and neither are the characters in my books.

In our society today there is a need for more Christian Fiction writers. Please if you are a writer don’t be afraid to share the gift that God has given you. Your book just might be the story that others need to read that will encourage them to let go of their struggles and let God intervene in their lives.

2.  When you write, do you write for a long period of time or do you write in short burst?

When I write I usually don’t stop until I have written a full chapter.

3.  Where did your inspiration for Girlfriends Secrets come from?

I love watching the sitcom Girlfriends and I thought it would be fun to write about three women and the issues that they have and the secrets that they hold. But I wanted to adapt their story to Christian Fiction.

4.  What words of advice would you give to aspiring authors?

If you have a story to tell, then you write it. Being a self-published author is not an easy business, you need to have time to put in work to promote and get your books out to the public. But first you should do your research to make sure you are ready for this type of business.

5.  What is your favorite time of year?

Summer. I was born on the first day of summer.

6.  What projects do you have planned for the future?

I have a short story called Heaven’s Cry, it will be out in October. I have a novel called Golden that will be out in November. I have two children books coming out hopefully before Christmas.  The sequel to my debut novel will be out in March 2014.

7.  What do you hope to say to people with your writing?

I hope they my writing will inspire others to seek God and to know that He will heal you when you are sick, He is your strength when you are weak and He will be there to comfort you in your darkest hour, only if you trust and believe.

8.  Is there another hobby you have that you would like to share?

I enjoy designing jewelry for my online jewelry store.

Girlfriends Secrets

Alisha, Brittany and Tyra have been best friends since high school, sharing everything from clothes to their most intimate thoughts. But when the secrets they all kept pulled them farther and farther apart, the friendship that once meant so much to them took a backseat to pain, anguish and betrayal of the worst kind.

Tyra Bell is a single mother, who has had her share of heartbreaks and disappointments from the pathetic men in her past relationships. While becoming accustomed to her walk as a Christian, Tyra’s faith is shaken to its core when she receives devastating news.

Brittany Parker is the epitome of a “kept” woman. This self-centered house wife of a successful medical doctor lives her life under the premise that life (hers at least) is too perfect to have a care in the world. That is until she runs across someone who shatters the life she once thought to be so perfect.

Alisha Wright is a struggling mother of two. She would go to any measure to stay in a relationship with her son’s father which results in putting both her and her children in harm’s way.

These three women are each on a dangerous path that promises to destroy life as they know it and ultimately take each one of them out in the process.

Author Spotlight on Chanta Rand

chanta randChanta Jefferson Rand is a multi-published author of sizzling-hot African-American romance. An avid reader of all romance genres, she stepped onto the scene in 2010 with her first published historical romance, entitled Pharaoh’s Desire. Whether writing historical or contemporary romances, she always tries to educate readers and teach them something they may not have known before. Chanta is a history junkie, a typical Pisces, a Walking Dead fan, and a recovering shoe addict. She never met a stiletto she didn’t like!

Thank you Chanta Rand for answering some questions for us today. I’ve had the pleasure to read your first novel Pharaoh’s Desire and it completely captivated me. No lover of romance should go without reading that book. I highly recommend. Now let’s get right into it!

  1. What made you choose to write in the Genre that you write in?

I’ve always loved history. I write historical romance because I enjoy mixing historical facts with romantic elements. True love transcends all eras.  And when you get down to it, I’m selling hope. That’s what romance is all about. No matter what time period we live in, women want to know that there’s still hope that our soul mate is somewhere out there waiting for us.

2.  Where did your inspiration for this book come from?

While researching for my first book Pharaoh’s Desire, way back in 1991, I came across a book about Nubian kings who dominated Egypt for hundreds of years. I’d never heard of Nubia or their magnificent kingdoms. I knew right then and there, I wanted to write a story that incorporated the tumultuous history of Nubia and Egypt. I added some murder, mystery and steamy sex into the mix, and viola, Pharaoh’s Desire was born! There was no one else writing Nubian romance back then, and even though there are a handful of authors who write it today, I think I’m the one with the most knowledge in this area. I’m glad I got the chance to personally visit Nubia and Cairo a few years ago before the conflict erupted in Egypt.

3.   How do you handle bad reviews?

I’d like to say I ignore them, but I take bad reviews very personally. I take a lot of time and research to craft a product that I hope resonates positively with readers. When I spend my money on any product and it’s unsatisfactory to me, I feel cheated. I don’t want my readers to have that experience. What helps is when a reader posts specific, detailed review, like one person did for my novel, You’ve Got Male. Based on her feedback, I made some changes and republished the story. But if a reader just says, “I didn’t like the book” or “This wasn’t for me,” that really doesn’t help me understand why they disliked it. Of course, you can’t please everyone, and I’m not going to change every book based on a review.

4.  If your book was turned into a movie who would the director be?

It sure as hell wouldn’t be Quentin Tarintino! I don’t know too many other directors, but I know who I’d want to star in it. Boris Kudjo would make a great Pharaoh Amonmose. Meagan Goode would be cast as Kama. For Goddess, I’d want my second baby-daddy, Idris Elba (sorry Blair) to play the part of Prince Samir. Kerry Washington would be great in the role of Ayana. Vanessa L. Williams would have to be in there somewhere.  Maybe she could play the part of Zahra. I just like her style and her resilience. She’s a strong lady who always lands on her feet.

5.  What do you dislike the most about the publishing world?

Unscrupulous publishers–like the one who originally published Pharaoh’s Desire before I got my rights back. Unfortunately, with the rise of self-publishing and independent authors, crooks are coming out of the woodwork to sham authors. We really have to be vigilant and stay on top of what’s happening in our industry. Other than that, I love writing and the publishing world. I recently launched a company called Colorful Covers to help authors find images of color for their book covers and other stock photography. To visit the site, go to www.Colorful-Covers.com.  We’re always looking for hot models too. So, whether you’re an author, publisher, graphic artist, or model, check out the site.

6.  What words of advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Don’t follow trends. Write what you love and then you’ll always be happy. Invest in a good editor. There’s nothing worse than a book drowning in grammatical errors.

7.  What book do you recommend everyone should read and why?

Roots by Alex Haley. Whether black or white, I don’t think there is anyone whose ancestors where untouched by the horrendous institution of slavery. Black history didn’t start with the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. Roots provides great insight into our history in Africa.

8.  What is the worse book you have ever read?

I would never directly call out an author or a book. I work very hard on my books, and I would like to think other authors are doing that as well. I review books on Amazon, but I rarely give a bad book review, unless the book was just horrific! I will say there are certain authors who are writing in my specific genre (African American historical romance centering around Ancient Egypt) whom I feel have not put the research or work into their product. All I can say is that it’s reflected in the end result.

9.  Who is your favorite author and why?

I’m a book junkie. I can’t limit myself to just one author. The ones I like reading are: Johanna Lindsey, Beverly Jenkins, Philippa Gregory, Farrah Rochon, Philip Boast, Niobia Bryant, Adrianne Bird, Keith Thomas Walker, and Shelly Fredman.  Oh, I just added a new one to the mix: Russell Blake. I love his JET series about a kickass operative who speaks seven languages and has wicked skills with a gun.  And I love the Tennyson Hardwick series by Blair Underwood. In my fantasies, Blair is my baby daddy–only without the babies!

10. Who is your favorite musical artist?

I don’t have a favorite artist. There is too much talent out there for me to be faithful to one person or group. I like old school gangsta rap, jazz, R&B, reggae, country, hip hop, and soft rock. However, I will say the artists I listen to most are: MAXWELL, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Marvin Gaye, Mariah Carey, Angie Stone, and Nina Simone. I also listen to a lot of 80s music and Disco. That was when music was at its best.

11.  Is there another hobby you have that you would like to share?

It’s not a hobby, more like an obsession. I’m a Walking Dead fan. I love, love, love those damn zombies. I collect all of the action figures for the series. Michonne, played by Danai Gurira is my favorite character. She’s brave, beautiful, and strong.

She plots her escape, vowing to kill her captors the first chance she gets. What she doesn’t anticipate is the fierce attraction she feels towards Bakari’s brother, Prince Samir. She might be able to flee, but can she outrun her passions?

Spurned by a woman he believed loved him, Prince Samir has been wandering the world with a broken heart for five years. He’s become a bitter man who is determined never to love again. But when he returns home to find his brother has taken a beautiful captive, he is immediately drawn to the woman. There is no love lost between Samir and Bakari, and tempers flare when Samir claims the spirited Ayana as his own. Then, an unexpected shift in power leaves Bakari as king and Samir as an outcast. Samir must risk everything to win a kingdom and the love of Ayana.
