Until My Last Breath (Trouble In Paradise book 4)

When Caroline left the house, she hit the alarm on her car and put the phone to her ear. “Yes, I’m on my way right now, tell them not to leave. Take them refreshments,” she barked through the phone. She jumped in her Mercedes Benz and pulled out of the driveway. Her license plate read; Mrs. Right4You. Speeding off down the road, she never noticed the blue two thousand and one Ford Taurus parked across the street in the driveway of a vacant house.

Tim adjusted his mirror. He was sweating bullets. The last thing he wanted to do was go back inside that house. There was no telling what lay inside it, but he had to help. He just couldn’t go through with this. Maybe he should wait until it was dark. He could, but then he’d run the risk of running into Caroline. She was the last person he wanted to run into. As far as he was concerned, she was scarier than Nightmare on Elm Street. He’d rather have bad dreams about Freddie Kruger than to deal with a woman on a mission who would pay money like that to set someone up. That was real life a bad dream he couldn’t deal with.

He steadied his breath and manned up. Then, he got of the car and closed the door quietly. The house wasn’t located in a busy part of town, and this neighborhood held mostly vacant houses. The next occupied house was about two blocks away. It was a good spot for anyone to hold someone against their will. Nobody would hear them. Just thinking about it gave Tim the creeps.

Tim crossed the street, tip toeing as if someone could hear him. He checked the front door and it was locked. He crept around to the side entrance, it was also locked. There was a door in the back of the house. He was all too ready to breathe a sigh of relief and leave, telling his conscience he tried but couldn’t help. He crept down a slope the house sat on and rounded to the back. Once there, he checked the door and it turned. There was a pained expression on his face as he realized getting away that easy was too good to be true.

Stepping into the shadowy room, he gently closed the door. He moved in deeper to find a room with saws, and carpenter tools lying around the top of a wooden table. There was a stench he couldn’t make out, but it was the worst of worst. He bent over and regurgitated, spilling his guts on the floor. He went down to one knee and continued to spill his guts, literally. He tried to shake it off.

“Come on, get up,” he said, giving himself a pep talk.

It was too late for him to turn back now. He’d already gotten himself into it and left his mark in the corner of the room. He might as well help them out. Finally getting himself together Tim stood to his feet. On his toes he went down a darkened hallway. The smell was getting stronger. He peeked into an open doorway where the putrid smell was the strongest. Bile rose in his throat when he saw the two women bound. He bent over and spilled more of his guts out onto the floor.

The sound caught the attention of Victoria. She looked over, unable to see out of one eye.

“Who’s there?” she called in the weakest voice he’d ever heard.

Tim continued to throw up. Who was he kidding? He was not made for this. Caroline was a monster. What had he done? His conscience was right; he was going to hell for this. He shook his head and asked the Lord for forgiveness right then and there.

“Please,” Victoria begged, “help me.”

Tim got to his feet. He went to her and examined the rope she was tied to. The other woman was lifted in the air by her hands, but Victoria was in a pile of feces on the floor.

Victoria looked at him with her one good eye and knew who he was. Surprise flew across her face as recognition hit her. “Aren’t you Greg’s friend?”

He shook his head yes shamefully. “Please tell me you have a cell phone.”

Tim took out his cell phone, his hand shaking fitfully. Victoria gave him a number to dial.

“Talk to me,” Joshua answered the phone.

“Please,” she said, starting to weep softly.

Joshua turned the CD down. “Hello!” he said, alarmed, but unable to make out the raspy voice on the other end. “It’s me, Victoria, please.”

Tim took the phone away from her ear. “We should probably get you out of here before anyone comes back,” he said.

“Tell him where this is. Do you know where this is?” she asked.

Tim’s nerves were getting the better of him. He didn’t want anybody else to know he was involved. Maybe he should just get Victoria out of there and drop her off somewhere. He fidgeted thinking about his options which weren’t many.

“Hello! Victoria!” Joshua was screaming through the phone.

Tim put the phone to his ear. “Sh-she’s in trouble, man,” he stuttered.

“Who is this?” Joshua roared. Tim shook taking the phone away from his ear, he took too long to respond, “HELLO!” Joshua barked.

“Please,” Victoria begged, “please tell him.”

Tim put the phone back to Victoria’s ear. “Baby,” she said, about to pass out now, “I’m sorry.”

Her head fell backward as she went off into a slumber. No energy left in her.

“VICTORIA!” Joshua screamed. He’d pulled over to the side of the highway now and had the phone on speaker.

Tim put the phone to his ear. “Hold on,” he said. He moved throughout the room and found an old rusty sink sitting in the back with a water drip. There wasn’t any cups, so he reached for an aluminum can he saw sitting on top of the sink. He put his nose to it and sniffed. There was just an old rusty smell to it. It was his only choice, he turned the faucet on and let the water run into the cup. He did what he could to rinse it out before filling it halfway with water.

“HELLO?” He could hear Joshua yelling through his cell phone. He put the phone back to his ear as he walked back over to Victoria.

“I’m giving her some water,” he said.

“Who is this?”

“A friend, just know if I don’t get her out of here, we’re both dead.”

An ominous feeling ran through Joshua. “Where are you?” he barked.

Tim lifted Victoria’s head and put the can to her lips the water ran out and covered her mouth, spilling down both sides of her face. She began to choke on water that had seeped into her throat. Tim pulled back and gave her a second.

“I said, where are you!” Joshua shouted, unable to keep his cool. He was on the edge of hysteria.

“Hold on,” Tim said again.

Joshua cursed and threw his hands up. Tim put the cup back to Victoria’s lips as she became more aware of the cold liquid oozing through her mouth. She drank slowly at first then hastily as if she hadn’t had water in years.

Tim put the phone back to his ear while Victoria drank from the can in his hand, “She’s on Magnolia Street in Marietta three blocks from East Cobb Park. The address is 204—”

A sharp pain hit Tim in the side of his head and he went to the floor, landing on top of Victoria. She let out a sharp cry before his phone hit the ground and shattered into pieces. Alexis stood over him with the butt of her gun raised in the air prepared to hit him again. She wouldn’t need to. Tim was weak. He tried to get up but stumbled forward and fell to the floor. She turned her gun on him and pulled out her cell phone. She dialed Caroline but there was no answer. Alexis cursed. Caroline must have been in the meeting. She had no choice but to tie him up.

shortstory2

The knocks on the door came in rapid succession. Celine tilted her head slightly towards the door but made no effort to answer it. Looking back to the ceiling, she allowed her thoughts to float into space. Two weeks had passed since her first kill in five years; breaking the vow she’d made to her husband on their anniversary night. It was a necessary death, but that’s not what haunted her. There were only two men she loved more than life itself. Her husband Alan Brigg’s and her handler Brian Devareaux.

When she was only a young girl, death found her father as he worked at the construction site he faithfully went to each day and her mother had fallen victim to the harsh Chicago streets. After watching her mother prostitute herself for whatever drug she was on at the time, it became routine for her to seek men out for a quick payday once she was on her own. When she found her first trick, reality set in fast.

Celine couldn’t go through with it. But he was unrelenting, pulling her into an alley, beating her senseless. When he thought she was weak enough to take advantage of, he ripped her panties and pulled out his soft, raggedy, uncircumcised dick trying with fitful plunges to penetrate her untouched vagina. When the blade slid across his neck, he never saw it coming. It was the first time she laid eyes on Brian. His mountainous frame stood over them with menacing eyes. He tossed the trick to the side and held his hand out to her. Everything else was history.

Brian became her one and only, teaching her how to shoot with every gun known to man. He gained her trust and she fell in love, losing her virginity to him.
But Brian was not a man to be loved. He was ruthless, mischievous and cold to everyone around him but her. In his line of business, he had to be. She watched many women come and go. Making it no secret that he wasn’t interested in being monogamous with her or anyone else. Celine prospered, her skills behind the trigger grew sharper by the day. Soon enough, she became his most valuable asset and the only hitman he used when needed.

On the day she set her eyes on Alan, her whole world changed. He was too good to be true. Attentive, compassionate, disarming. She used to pinch herself sometimes to make sure he was real. Alan became her best friend. She divulged all her deepest, darkest, secrets to him. Still, he accepted her, asking for her hand in marriage. But there was one stipulation. She had to put down her vices and leave the world of guns, violence, drugs and Brian.

It wasn’t easy, but giving those things up was for the better. For five years, they lived in whimsical bliss. Then one night during dinner, Alan gripped his chest and fell to the floor. Hours later they found out he suffered with severe systolic heart failure. He would need a heart transplant and selling the house wouldn’t be enough to fund it.

When Celine was able to acquire the funds after Devon’s death, she was all too happy to pay Alan’s doctor bills and have the procedure done. The doctors wasted no time in operating, but Alan never made it out of the operating room. Something about his body rejecting the implant. Celine couldn’t remember what he said. Her mind went blank.

The rapping at the door was more incessant and volatile. Whoever was beating against it was about to take the hinges off. With renewed frustration, she tossed her arm back gripping the handgun that lay next to her head and pounced off the bed.

“What!” she said swinging open the door. Surprise didn’t register on her face at the person standing across the threshold. Her hand fell to her side taking the gun off him. She attempted to slam the door, but his foot stuck out rejecting the dismissal. Celine pivoted on her heels, “How did you find me?” She stumbled back to the bed and fell on her knees in front of a silver tray laced with cocaine.

“How long did you think you could hide from me?” Brian said stepping into the dusty motel room. His eyes perused the wilted wallpaper that sagged down the walls, to the crooked blinds that bent and hung uneven in the lone windowsill, to the silver tray she stuffed her face in. He reached down and flung the tray against the wall.

“What do you think you’re doing!” She yelled.
He clenched his jaw, “I know you’re in pain, Celine…”

“What do you know about my pain?!” She glowered at him rising to her feet. “Where were you when I put up my house and was left on my ass in the streets?!” Her hands pushed against his firm chest. “Where were you when my brother in law extorted sex from me in order to pay my husband’s hospital bills?!” She pushed him again. “Where were you when the south side boys sent their goons after me to get to you?!”

She balled her fist and swung at his face.
He caught her wrists, but she fought him with all the strength she had. He bent her arms behind her back as she struggled against him. “Get off me!” she screamed, “I hate you!” Tears rolled down her face her scuffle insistent.

“Listen to me!”
“No!”
He lifted her small frame releasing her arms pinning her against the wall. “You wanted me to go away remember! You were the one who removed yourself from my life, not me!”

“I hate you!” She cried with tears streaming faster now. She pushed against him and he recaptured her arms pinning them over her head. “Calm down!”

Her body betrayed her, reacting to his rigid erection that pushed against her belly. Her mind told her to fight, but her body told a different story. He could sense it too. It was no use trying to ignore it, especially with her legs wrapped around his waist wearing only a panty and bra set. He crushed his mouth to hers and she bit back on his lips drawing blood. “Shit!” he screamed pulling back.

He put both her wrists in the palm of one of his hands while he removed his belt and unzipped his pants. Without warning he slid the thin material to the side and submerged his engorged length into her.

“Son of a bitch!” She screamed lunging for his neck. Her fangs dug into his flesh and he made her pay for it in the most wonderful way.
“Do you still hate me now?”
“Yes!” she hissed.

They rocked against the wall and he released her wrists to grab a firm hold on her thighs. She slapped him against his face but it didn’t disturb him. He bent his head sucking in a distended nipple as he pummeled into her. A high pitched moan escaped her lips, “I…still…hate…you…” she panted, “You…son…of…a…bitch…” His thrusts tore into her causing a ripping orgasm to cream down his shaft.

“Shit!” he yelled yielding to his own release. He buckled, placing Celine on her feet.
“Move,” she said pushing him just enough to disconnect from him. She staggered to the window trying to catch her breath. It was no secret that he brought out the animal in her and she hated herself for wanting more of him.

From behind her she heard his zipper, “When I found out about the south side boys coming after you, I sent them a message they can’t ignore. Trust me when I tell you, it’s taken care of. And another thing, I found out that one of the doctors on your husband’s team may have been on their payroll.”

Celine whipped around eyes wide. “What are you saying?”
His dark eyes peered at her, “I think you know.”
Rage unlike anything she’d ever felt before stimulated her nerve endings.

“I’m taking care of that too,” he said.
“No,” she snarled. “I’ll take care of it!”

I wrote this book this book with a co-writer, Author Keith A. Bennett. More information about this author and pre-order links can be found at http://www.thekeystomysoul.com. The release date is set for the first quarter of 2017.

Right behind this release comes An Unfortunate Accident. This book is geared more towards crime/thriller but it centers around a married couple celebrating their eight year anniversary. This story is controversial and I almost didn’t release it, but it’s a story that must be told. Yes, it is fiction. It actually came to me in a dream and was so intense that I had to write it down.

Synopsis:

Nathan and Renee Johnson are more in love now than they were on their wedding day.  Their careers have sky-rocketed and the move to Cleveland Ohio five years ago was their best move. However, on the night of their eight-year anniversary, Nathan and Renee’s lives changed forever.  Leaving one of their favorite restaurants, tipsy and looking forward to an extensive night of passionate sex, a startling cry in the darkness captured their attention. Drawn to the sound, they discovered a crime in progress. Caught up in the horror of it all, the couple take out their cell phones and started recording. To their dismay, they’re spotted by the perpetrator and he goes after them with a vengeance.

At day break, the magnitude of everything they witnessed hits the couple full force. They noticed the vehicle sitting outside the gates of their two-story Tudor style home the night before.  Quickly, things around them start to change.  With their lives in danger, the couple goes through anything necessary to keep their family safe. The cost weighs so heavy that they may not survive it.
